Happy hunting season! I know that hunters (including my husband) count down the days to hunting season, and you’re probably thrilled that it’s finally here. That brings me to the main point of this post: Andrew and I just released a new book called My First Book of Hunting 123!

I am SO excited to share this book with you. Over 30,000 people bought the first book in the series that teaches the ABCs. If you are one of them, THANK YOU! We have received hundreds of kind comments from customers who were excited to pass on their favorite tradition to their children and grandchildren.
It’s time to return to the world of hunting to learn how to count from one to ten. Little Hunter and his dad take their old truck and binoculars into the wilderness to look for animals. They find all sorts of wildlife, including deer, elk, ducks, wolves, and squirrels.

Keep reading to learn more about the book.
What is the book about?
This story follows a young boy and his dad as they use binoculars to look for animals. They count the animals they see, from 1 to 10, and listen to the sounds they make. One fun thing about this book is that it features wild game you don’t often see in picture books. You’ll see deer and squirrels, but you’ll also find wild hogs, pronghorn, and mallard ducks sprawled across the pages.
Who wrote it?
Andrew McMurdie is the author of this book. He has written several books about hunting for children, including the first two titles in this series: My First Book of Hunting ABC and My First Book of Hunting 100 Words.
Who illustrated it?
That would be me (Dena McMurdie). I have a bachelor’s degree in fine art (drawing and painting) and a background in graphic design and illustration. I illustrated all the books in this series so far, and it’s one of my favorite projects. Drawing wildlife and creating an engaging book for kids is a dream come true!
Is it a rhyming book?
Yes! Andrew spent months working on the rhyme and adjusting each line to make it flow perfectly. The result is a fun, bouncy rhyme that’s easy to read and includes sound words (oink, quack, crash, etc.) that make for an interactive reading experience. Children love it!
Do I need to read the other books in the series first?
Nope! Although this is the third book in the My First Book of Hunting series, you don't need to read them in any particular order. The stories do not overlap, and none of the books have spoilers or cliffhangers. You can read each book entirely on its own!
What age is this book for?
My First Book of Hunting 123 is a picture book. It contains just a few lines of text on each page, colorful illustrations, and an extra-large font. For these reasons, it’s recommended for young readers ages 2-5. However, children up to 7 years old will enjoy the story.
How much does it cost, and where can I buy it?
