10 Hilarious “Would You Rather” Questions to Ask Your Kid

My dad was a teacher, and he loved adding something funny or unexpected into his lessons, like a cartoon or an unconventional question that kids found hilarious. When he wanted to break the ice with a classroom full of students, “Would you rather” questions were the perfect solution. He would bust out one of these wacky questions, and quickly got an interesting dialogue going.

But you don’t have to be a teacher to use this technique. Parents, grandparents, and caregivers who want to engage their child in a conversation that doesn’t involve one-word answers will also love using these questions. They’re excellent conversation starters for around the dinner table, to break up awkward pauses, and to engage kids during road trips and airplane rides.

Whether you’re interested in getting to know your child better or want to talk about something other than their latest video game exploit, here are 10 hilarious questions to ask them. Their answers (and their reasons why) may surprise you!

  1. Would you rather be able to jump as high as a skyscraper or run as fast as a racecar?

  2. Would you rather step in a cow patty (cow poop) or sit in mud?

  3. Would you rather have extra eyes on the back of your head or extra ears on your neck?

  4. Would you rather eat a cockroach or a worm?

  5. Would you rather get trapped in a fairy tale or have the story come to life in your town?

  6. Would you rather have a penguin as a waiter or a giraffe as a butler?

  7. Would you rather have cheetah spots or a porcupine tail?

  8. Would you rather have to walk everywhere backward or have to wear all your clothes backward?

  9. Would you rather have a stubborn wedgie or a wart on your foot?

  10. Would you rather have the ability to turn into a fish or a bird?
