Most Anticipated Fantasy Sequels for Kids Featured Image

Is there anything better than finding a series that your kids absolutely love? And when the next book comes out, it’s like Christmas morning all over again. I find that my kids almost always get obsessed with fantasy novels, which is great since they’re usually published in a series. And since the second (or third or fourth) books in a series don’t get nearly as much attention as the first, I decided to create this roundup of highly readable fantasy sequels for kids ages 9-12.

Whether your kid has been waiting for a short time or several years for the next book in their favorite series, here are some of the most anticipated fantasy sequels for kids.

Charlie Hernandez and the Castle of Bones by Ryan Calejo | redwolfpress.comCharlie Hernandez and the Castle of Bones (Charlie Hernandez #2) by Ryan Calejo

Kids that enjoyed Percy Jackson will love this series that tackles Latin mythology. This is the second fast-paced novel in the series, and it is quickly becoming one of my daughter’s favorite series. She devoured the first book when it came out and gobbled this one up too. Of course, if your child hasn’t read the first book yet, have them start with that one: Charlie Hernandez and the League of Shadows.

This is a fantasy sequel that I’ve been waiting for for a long time. I read the first book to my oldest daughter when she was four years old, and I was thrilled when I found out about the sequel. It was a long wait, but it was worth it. This series is great for the younger set, so if your kids are in the 7-10 age range and like books about friendship and courage, snag a copy of Kenny and the Dragon and Kenny and the Book of Beasts.

Kids that love stories and fairy tales will fall in love with this magical series. It’s about a book character who gets sidelined and has to work her way into the story’s spotlight. It’s imaginative and fun. This is the second book in the Talespinners series and an awesome sequel. If you’re new to this story, start with the first book, Saving Fable.

Out of all the books published by Rick Riordan Presents, this series is my favorite. It’s about a boy named Zane who has run-ins with ancient Mayan gods, monsters, and heroes. This book concludes the trilogy, and fans of the series have been anxiously waiting for publication day. The wait is finally over! If your child loves Percy Jackson and hasn’t read this series yet, now is an excellent time to dive in.

My daughter eagerly awaits each new book that comes out in this series and devours them within days. This particular book is the newest installment in the spin-off series, The Unwanteds Quests. If your reader likes to obsess over super long series, keep this one on your radar. It’s fantastic!

Of course, if they haven’t read the rest of the series yet, start at the beginning with The Hidden Oracle.

Epoca: The River of Sand (Epoca #2) by Kobe Bryant and Ivy ClaireEpoca: The River of Sand (Epoca #2) by Kobe Bryant and Ivy Claire

One of the things I like about this series is the intersection of fantasy and sports. I’ve always thought there should be more stories about sports, and I’m happy that the late basketball legend Kobe Bryant thought so too. If your young reader loves sports and competition, they’ll love the second book in the Epoca series. With sports, magic, teamwork, leadership, and friendship drama, this story is perfect for middle schoolers.

If you’ve never heard of this series before, then you’re in for a treat. They’re full of magic, mischief, alternate dimensions, prophecies, and destiny. And the story takes place in this incredible hotel that is as alive as Hogwarts. You’ll love these books as much as your kids do.
