Free Printable Door Hangers for Kids

When you were little, did you have an imaginary place? Maybe it was a real place, but it was somewhere you felt safe and happy. It could have been a treehouse, a fort, that spot under the stairs, or even your bedroom. Today, I’m excited to introduce you to the picture book Some Days by Maria Wernicke and give you some free printable door hangers for your kiddo’s bedroom.

Some Days is about a little girl who tells her mother about an imaginary place she likes to visit. By using a “portal” that opens when she twists herself up in the laundry hanging out to dry, she enters another world. In this new place, she is never afraid, cold, or sad. And the best part is that someone she misses is always there, waiting for her.

Her mother listens to her story carefully. Then, the little girl and her mother find the portal together. It’s a beautiful story about imagination, safe-havens, and dealing with grief.

I’ve read several picture books that tackle the topic of grief, death, or the loss of a loved one. Some Days is one of the best. It’s gentle, reassuring, and comforting. I love the idea that your loved ones are so close that you can find them with your heart. And with the stunning artwork, this book is a pleasure to read!

Some Days by Maria Wernicke

From an Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award nominee comes a touching story of family, security, and loss.

A young girl tells her mother about a passageway in their yard. Down this passageway, it is not cold, there is no danger, and nothing bad can ever happen—and the person she longs for is with her again. The only problem is that, on some days, the passageway is not there. But maybe, together, mother and daughter can find a way to carry that feeling with them always.

First published in Argentina, this lovely picture book will tug on the heartstrings of anyone who knows what it means to miss a loved one.
