Do you remember when you first discovered your love of reading? It was probably a magical moment when you got lost in a good story for the first time. To celebrate the joy of reading, I’m thrilled to partner with Tara Luebbe to share her picture book, Ronan the Librarian!
Ronan the Librarian is about a big, fierce barbarian who leads his people on raids. They collect all sorts of treasures to trade when they return home. But when Ronan picks up a book on a raid, nobody will trade him for it. As everyone knows, barbarians don’t read books. He’s about to use the book as toilet paper when he starts to read. Soon, he can’t stop reading! He reads all through the night and almost misses the next day’s raid. All he can think about is his book.
Ronan continues to invade and raid and pick up books. And more books. Soon, Ronan has collected so many books, he needs somewhere to keep them all. So he builds a library and invites his friends to the grand opening. But barbarians don’t read books, remember? Ronan will have to put his leadership skills to good use if he wants to share his newfound love of reading.
If you and your children enjoy reading books about books, this is a must-have for your shelf! Ronan the Librarian celebrates the joy of reading and the importance of libraries. I read this book to my daughter and we loved every page. The story is lighthearted and silly and so much fun to read. My daughter and I loved looking at the illustrations and pointing out all the goofy things happening in them. From Ronan reading a book while riding his wild hog in the wrong direction to a tower of books threatening to topple over on him, the pictures in this book add to the charm and humor of the story.
This book is a fantastic gift to give to your book-obsessed child, your school librarian, or your child’s teacher. If you’re looking for a thoughtful teacher gift for the holidays or teacher appreciation week, snag a copy or two of this charming book! They’ll love it and their students will, too.
About the Book
Ronan the Librarian by Tara Luebbe and Becky Cattie, illustrated by Victoria Maderna
This humorous picture book from sister duo Tara Luebbe and Becky Cattie and illustrator Victoria Maderna follows Ronan the Barbarian as he grows from being just a rough-and-tumble warrior to Ronan the Librarian–a rough-and-tumble warrior who loves books.
Ronan was a mighty barbarian.
He invaded. He raided. And back home, he traded.
He always found the greatest treasures.
Until one day, Ronan found something no barbarian wants:
A BOOK.
At first, his fellow barbarians are skeptical of his newfound passion for reading, but in the end, even they aren’t immune to the charms of a good book.

4 years agoI can’t remember; I was reading before pre-school, 50+ years ago. But I do remember loving a book entitled, “Ann Likes Red!” about a young girl who knew her own mind, and her own tastes, and who loved everything in red! (Red! Red! Red! You get the picture.)
