How to Make a Cape for Toys and Dolls

How to make a cape for toys and dolls. Easy step-by-step instructions video. | redwolfpress.com

My kids love superheroes and if I’m being honest, I do too. I am thrilled to work with Two Lions Press to bring you this blog post about Super Rooster Saves the Day by Maureen Wright. Keep reading to learn more about the book and learn how to make a superhero cape for your doll or stuffed animals!

Super Rooster Saves the Day is about a little rooster named Ralph. He believes that he is a superhero and that he has superpowers. The problem is that none of the other animals believe he is a superhero except for his very best friend—a pig named Rosie. She is his number one fan and cheerleader.

One day, Ralph hears The Chicken Dance song on the radio and feels his superpowers coming to life. Soon, he and Rosie are looking for problems to solve and days to save. But it turns out that Ralph causes more problems than he solves. All the other animals are getting frustrated with Ralph (except for Rosie). When a problem comes up that nobody knows how to fix, all the animals will have to work with Ralph to save the day.

This book is so adorable! It’s the perfect example of how somebody ordinary can do extraordinary things. The bright and colorful illustrations feature expressive farm animals that add extra personality to the story. If your child loves superheroes or stories about animals, this book will be a fantastic addition to your shelf.

Ralph the rooster has big dreams of becoming a superhero. But the other farm animals aren’t so sure—except for Rosie the pig, that is. She’s Ralph’s best friend, and she believes in him. As Ralph and Rosie hang around the farm, there are just no opportunities to be a superhero and save the day…until the farmer turns on the radio, and the “Chicken Dance” song starts playing. POW-WOW! Suddenly it seems that Ralph may have some super powers after all…or does he? Join Ralph and Rosie as they prove that believing in yourself and being a good friend is what makes a true superhero.

How to Make a Cape for Toys and Dolls

In honor of all the little superheroes out there, I made this video tutorial on how to make your own superhero cape for your 18″ doll or stuffed animal. You’ll find a free printable pattern, a list of needed supplies, and instructions on how to make this super simple and easy cape. It only requires a few items and this project can be completed in 10-15 minutes! That’s my kind of project!

Needed Supplies:

  1. A sheet of felt. You can find these at your local craft supply store or on Amazon.
  2. Scissors. Fabric cutting scissors like these ones work best, but you can get by with a good pair of normal scissors.
  3. Velcro. This is available at craft and sewing stores or on Amazon.
  4. Pattern. Included here.

Print your pattern:

How to Make a Cape for Your Doll or Toys:

  1. Print out the pattern and cut it out (above).
  2. Fold your felt in half, horizontally so it makes a short rectangle.
  3. Place your pattern on top of the felt. Line up the long edge of the pattern with the folded side of the felt. You can pin it in place if you want to.
  4. Using the pattern as a guide, cut out your felt.
  5. Open the felt so it lays flat.
  6. Place one end of the velcro, sticky side down, at the end of one of the neck straps.
  7. Turn the other neck strap over and place the second side of the velcro on the end of that strap.
  8. All done! Now you can put it on your doll or stuffed animal.
