Colors are one of the first concepts that kids learn in preschool and kindergarten. This Book is Gray by Lindsay Ward is a fun and funny introduction to colors that children will adore. I’m thrilled to partner with Two Lions Press to introduce you to the book and give you some free printable color concept coloring pages!
This Book is Gray is about the color Gray. He always feels like an outsider, so he decides to make a book about things that are gray. But the other colors won’t stay away. They keep showing up and bringing color into his gray book, no matter what he says or does. Eventually, Gray and the other colors decide that the best stories have every color in them—including gray.
I read this to my four-year-old daughter and we loved it! The humor and silliness in it reminded me of The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt. And I have to say that the illustrations are CUTE! This book is a fun way to encourage color recognition in children who have moved on from board books and simple concept books. It also gently tackles issues like kindness, pushiness, and getting along with others. Make sure to check this one out!

About the Book
This Book is Gray by Lindsay Ward
Gray just wants to be included. But the other colors are always leaving him out. So he decides to create his own project: an all-gray book. Once upon a time, there lived a wolf, a kitten, and a hippo…
Gray just knows it’s going to be perfect. But as he adds page after page, the Primary and Secondary colors show up…and they aren’t quite so complimentary.
A book within a book, this colorful tale explores the ideas of fitting in, appreciating others, and looking at things from another perspective and also uses personality and wit to introduce basic color concepts.
