5 Spoiler-Filled Theories About Cobra Kai Season 3

Cobra Kai Theories for Season 3

Cobra Kai is my new obsession. The action-comedy is a reboot of the Karate Kid franchise and features many of the original actors, including Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence, and Martin Kove as John Kreese.

The show is both action-packed and hilarious, a combination that won me over by the end of the first episode. Considering the show’s growing popularity, it’s no surprise why Cobra Kai has been renewed for a third season. The short episodes and action-packed plotline are both addictive and entertaining.

The finale of season two left me with several open-ended questions about the story and characters. Naturally, I’ve been coming up with theories about what’s in store for the characters during season three.

*SPOILER ALERT!*

If you haven’t watched Cobra Kai yet, head over to Netflix and watch it before reading this. You won’t want to read this before watching the show because it’s riddled with spoilers.

You’ve been warned.

Cobra Kai Theories for Season 3

Ali will have a major role in season 3

During a rare moment of camaraderie in season one, Johnny and Daniel reminisce about Ali, the girl they both loved in high school. A quick peek at her Facebook page reveals she’s a pediatric surgeon.

Throughout season two, both men admit they had strong feelings for Ali when they were younger. Johnny even confesses to a friend that he never got over her. Later, Johnny reaches out to Ali on Facebook and asks if they can reconnect. The last scene of the season finale reveals Johnny’s abandoned cell phone displaying a Facebook friend request from Ali.

With Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) in the hospital from injuries sustained in a dramatic fall during the big fight at the end of the season, it’s likely that he’ll need surgery in order to recover. Who better to save Miguel and reboot a love triangle than Johnny and Daniel’s old high school flame?

A power struggle between Johnny and Kreese

Season two saw the return of John Kreese as a broken man, desperate for a second chance. Johnny Lawrence gives him that chance as a sensei at the Cobra Kai karate dojo. It’s a short-lived partnership, however, and Johnny kicks Kreese to the curb when he finds out Kreese is teaching the students to fight dirty.

However, Kreese isn’t ready to quietly disappear. At the end of the season, he manipulates the Cobra Kai dojo away from Johnny—and all the students with it.

The newly dojo-less Johnny may be down, but he’s not out. Going up against Kreese won’t be easy, but season three could be Johnny’s chance to prove he’s made of sterner stuff than his old sensei.

Daniel and Johnny team up

Daniel and Johnny have a lot in common and could become friends if their rivalry wasn’t fueled by pointless dojo wars.  But things have changed dramatically from the beginning of the show. Johnny is back at square one with no dojo and no students. On top of that, Daniel’s wife Amanda (Courtney Henggeler) demands that Daniel close his dojo and quit karate after their daughter gets hurt in a fight.

With Kreese now running Cobra Kai, season three could be an opportunity for Johnny and Daniel to team up against a common enemy. It would be a tenuous alliance at best, especially if Ali makes an appearance, but the opportunity is there.

Sam and Miguel reconcile

Early in season two, Miguel is still pining after Sam (Mary Mouser) and even creates a nostalgic video for her. Later in the season, when both teens are dating other people, a drunk Sam kisses Miguel, which confirms suspicions that she’s not over him, either.

That kiss is witnessed by Miguel’s girlfriend, Tori (Peyton List) and sparks the epic fight in the season finale.

Feeling guilty and upset about getting in trouble with her parents, Sam appears to be on the verge of a breakup speech with her boyfriend Robby (Tanner Buchanan) but is interrupted by the school bell. After the school-wide brawl, Sam blames Robby for sending Miguel tumbling over a ledge, falling several feet, and ending up in the hospital.

It’s unclear where the teens stand with their love interests after the season finale, but tensions are definitely running high. There’s a chance that we could see Sam and Miguel reconcile in season three.

Hawk and Miguel face off

The tension between Hawk (Jacob Bertrand) and Miguel built throughout season two. With Hawk’s increasing anger issues and relentless bullying of Dimitri (Gianni Decenzo), Miguel starts to pull away from him. Their epic fight during the Coyote Creek training showed they are well-matched in skill and dirty fighting tactics. Miguel’s surprisingly vicious kick to Hawk’s face after winning the challenge widened the gulf between the boys and planted the seed for a possible rivalry in season three.

While nobody knows exactly what season three will bring, I’m anticipating plenty of action, drama, and laughs along the way.
