Who knew that parents turn into party animals after their kids are in bed? That’s exactly what a young boy discovers when he decides to stay up late and spy on his parents.
It all starts when he notices weird things in the morning, like his stuffed duck swinging from a disco ball. Instead of going to sleep one night, he sneaks out of bed and witnesses his parents hosting a wild party for all kinds of animals.
This book is hilarious. What kid doesn’t have fantasies of staying up late to rock the house? The illustrations are jam-packed with puns and one-liner jokes that kids love. Bright colors and quirky characters add to the fun.
Duck on a Disco Ball is a best seller on Amazon and is a ton of fun to read at bedtime. Make sure to check out the #1 bestselling companion book Duck in the Fridge, too! You can find more information about both books at the bottom of this post.

Behind the scenes with Jeff Mack:
How did I write Duck on a Disco Ball?
Well, Duck on a Disco Ball was not always called Duck on a Disco Ball. At first, the duck wasn’t even in the story! It was just about the mom and dad throwing a huge party after their kid goes to sleep, a rhyming poem called When Mom and Dad Go Wild!. One scene showed them playing with their son’s toys, including a stuffed monkey. Then I changed the monkey into a toy duck. It was the same one that the boy has in Duck in a Fridge.
I added the duck to more scenes. I brought the duck to life by giving it some lines to say. Then, I took out the rhymes, wrote more jokes and the next thing I knew, my mom and dad poem had become a Duck sequel!
I tried out a few different titles like Party Duck, Duck Rocks the House, and Duck Til Dawn before I came up with my favorite of the bunch, Duck on a Disco Ball!
And that’s how it happened.
It’s almost always like this for me; the finished book is so different from my original idea. But, if you compare it to my first sketches, you’ll see there are always a few things that stay the same.
