My Favorite Disney Villains of All Time, Ranked

Favorite Disney Villains Ranked

This is an EVIL blog post full of villains! Mwah haha! I just devoured the Disney Villains novel, Mother Knows Best and it was delightfully spooky. It got me thinking about my favorite Disney villains of all time. There are so many fantastic villains!

Walt Disney sure knew how to cook up a bad guy (or gal) and Disney has continued the tradition of creating awesome villains.

Honestly, the villain is half the reason for watching any movie or reading any book. Which lead me to think about creating this blog post ranking my favorite Disney villains of all time.

My Favorite Disney Villains of All Time

10. Jafar from Aladdin.

Jafar is as creepy as they come. This power-hungry villain is smart and manipulative. He patiently plots his evil schemes and waits for all the pieces to fall into place. But in the end, his ambition is ultimately what defeats him.

9. Queen from Snow White.

One of the very first Disney villains is also one of my favorite. Spurred by jealousy, this evil lady will go to any length (including murder and turning herself into an old, warty hag) to eliminate her competition. Read Fairest of All to learn her side of the story.

8. Yzma from The Emperor’s New Groove.

I love a villain that can make me laugh and Yzma definitely does that. She’s hilarious. She’s evil. What more could you want in a villain? Besides being hideous and power-hungry, she abuses her position of trust in the Empire. Her single-minded obsession with obtaining the throne makes her both entertaining and formidable.

5. Scar from The Lion King.

Any villain that will murder his own brother in cold blood is one evil cat. Scar’s merciless plans and deceitful ways make him one of my favorite Disney villains. He’s cold, cruel, and let’s face it, a terrible king. With no respect for his lands, his subjects, or his position, his term as ruler was doomed from the start.

6. Lady Tremaine from Cinderella.

A lady that makes me shiver in my booties is Lady Tremaine. Selfish and ambitious, she is too short-sighted to see how her actions will do her more harm than good. She plots and plans, but all her scheming backfires when her duplicity is discovered.

5. Ursula from The Little Mermaid.

Villains with tentacles get extra points. Besides having a ridiculous number of arms, Ursula has ambition, brilliance, magic, and ruthlessness on her side. She uses everything at her disposal and rigs the game to play out in her favor. If only she had kept her eye on Eric and the ship, she could be ruling the seas. To learn her story, read Poor Unfortunate Soul.

4. Gothel from Tangled.

Gothel is such a great villain because she’s supposed to be one thing — a loving parent — but instead, she’s a scheming, violent, and selfish woman who will stop at nothing to achieve her goals. Using her position of trust and authority to manipulate Rapunzel is what makes her such a fantastic villain. Read Mother Knows Best to find out how Gothel became a villain.

3. Doctor Facilier from The Princess and the Frog.

I don’t think Doctor Facilier gets enough love. You have to admit, his songs are fantastic and his entrenchment in the world of voodoo magic is both terrifying and spellbinding. This smooth-talker is only defeated when he gets in over his head and can’t deliver on his promises.

2. Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty.

Maleficent can turn into a dragon. We could stop right there and that would be reason enough for her to be on this list. But when you add in her army of evil minions, her magical abilities, and her ruthless plotting, she is easily one of the top ten best Disney villains. Find out Maleficent’s backstory in Mistress of All Evil.

1. Gaston from Beauty and the Beast.

Gaston is everything a good villain should be, charming, charismatic, and completely full of himself. When he sets his sights on something (or someone) he won’t take no for an answer. His arrogance and persistence are ultimately what do him in.

If you’re interested in the Beast’s story, read The Beast Within.

Favorite villain? Wow, that’s a tough one because you sorta love to not love them, you know? I guess Gaston would be one, since he’s “human” yet more animal than the Beast. 😮

He’s my favorite villain too! I’m a little biased because I love the movie so much, but he’s really fantastic.

Ursula! She is so hysterically over the top.

  • Teresa O Flynn

It has to be Maleficent she scares the children anytime I read it

  • Carolyn D

I would say the Beast but he isn’t really the villain in Beauty and the Beast. I agree with others below that Gaston is more of an animal than the beast. One of my favorite movies of all time.
